The Data Tank Selectivv research team researched New Year's resolutions and persistence in making them among Poles. The frequency of opening applications for measuring physical activity and those related to a healthy lifestyle at the end of 2021 and the beginning of the new year was examined. In addition, we compared this data with the study a few years back 2016-2017<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analysis was performed based on users from Poland who launched pro-health applications, i.e., sports, slimming, and healthy eating applications, at least three times a month.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Application launch frequency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the outset, it should be noted that we see a significant increase in unique users of this type of application in the 2021\/2022 season compared to 2016\/2017, by as much as 91%! We consider that the saturation of smartphones and the awareness of using their potential in the population is more significant than five years ago. At the same time, such a result makes health applications more popular in 21\/22. One can also consider the pandemic in Poland, where the society needed to leave the house after extended lockdowns <\/a>take care of their health and body and thus start practicing sports.<\/p>\n\n\n

The largest number of launching the tested applications in the 2016\/2017 season was recorded in the first decade of January (2.2 million), while in the 2021\/2022 season in the second decade of January, which may indicate a reduction in the impact of New Year's resolutions for the start of holiday preparations. The lowest number of launching applications was recorded in the first decade of December 2016 and the third decade of 2017, while in the season 2021\/2022 in the second decade of November, the 4th wave of the pandemic could directly influence.<\/p>\n\n\n

We could observe that the most significant spikes in launching applications in the 21\/22 season were from the second half of January to the second half of February - the subsequent decline could have been caused by the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, and the citizens were busy with other matters. The subsequent increase is only in the second half of April and the first 3 weeks of May.<\/p>\n\n\n

This means that the New Year's resolution 2021\/2022 was more intense than in 2016\/2017, but also lasted shorter. Therefore, you should ask yourself what caused these changes. The epidemiological and political situation in the world prompts us to new habits and to give up some of them.
