The sport emotions after the Winter Olympics are slowly going down. It was a special time for all sports fans – those who were rooting for the Polish team in front of the TV screens, but particularly for fans who were present in Pyeongchang. Who are they - those sports fans who decided to fly to South Korea? Based on the data from the mobile channel, we have prepared these profiles.

The Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang ended on Sunday, during which the Polish jumpers stood on the podium twice - Kamil Stoch was awarded a gold medal, and the Poles ended the team competition in third place. Another opportunity for fans of Olympic winter sports only in 4 years, but already today we know who were the most passionate supporters of the Polish national team. According to the collected data, thanks to our authorial service geotrapping, our jumpers could count on support from almost 2,000 fans. A statistic Polish fan of the Winter Games in Pyeongchang is a man about 40 years old from a big city, reading about sports, but not necessarily actively engaged in it. Most often this is an Android user who spends vacation abroad.

The survey included owners of smartphones, who during the Games were located in the vicinity of hotels and Olympic facilities. Based on this, it can be concluded that the main purpose of their stay in Pyeongchang was to follow the sports competition. The analysis includes those users on whose devices the Polish language was installed and those who used the Internet, due to which their location was determined. The study excluded people staying in the vicinity of the Olympic villages during the entire duration of the Games, as most likely they were members of the Olympic team, service and correspondents - it is about 300 people.

At a certain time, in a specific place

Geotrapping technology is based on gathering information about users who have stayed in a specific place during a certain time. This differs from geolocation, because it is based on defining a group of users based on their location in the past and allows them to send a message not only in real time. For example, it allows you to collet people who have been at a housing fair and show them real estate ads next week.

First of all, we use geotrapping to carry out effective and strictly targeted mobile campaigns. The technology allowed to collect data on Polish fans in South Korea. Thanks to this we know that 68% of this group are men, and 61% of people are over 35 years old. 73% of respondents read about sports, but only 21% of them actively engaged in it. On the basis of the websites visited by them and the applications used, we also know that 19% of them spent their holidays at the Polish seaside and 39% abroad. Only 5% of those people are actively looking for a partner (e.g. a dating application is installed), and 6% are sexual minorities.

Dominik Karbowski, Selectivv co-CEO, explains how the data is obtained: :

Using smartphones and tablets, users provide information about themselves. These are demographic data such as age, gender, residential area, but also the place of work or civil status. An extremely important part of the data being shared is behavioral data about behavior and interests. Based on this information, we develop user profiles in Selectivv. Analysis and profiling of information from mobile devices is an important factor in reaching the customer with a precisely tailored offer. It is worth adding that the data that the company has is not sensitive personal data. We do not know if the user is Jan or Maria Kowalska, we do not know the address or phone number.

According to the results of the analysis, Polish sports fans will go even to South Korea to support their idols. This year, attention was paid to the discipline of springboard jumping, which after Kamil Stoch's next Olympic gold confirmed their status of the Polish national sport. How will it be during the next winter and summer Olympic Games? Undoubtedly, they will be full of emotions, and tribunes with crowd of people. What exactly - we'll tell you the next year.
