Selectivv starts with an initiative "Safe Pole" - Be safe abroad

The "Safe Pole" initiative, the idea of which is the Selectivv company, has an aim to provide a cooperation among Polish technological companies to improve the security of citizens of Poland. The beneficiaries of this project are all Poles who are staying abroad, who may face with danger, such as terrorist attacks, catastrophes, traffic accidents or a natural disaster.

"Safe Pole" is a technology of rapid responding, which is developed by Selectivv. The technology enables to reach with an alarm message smartphone users in case of a dangerous situation. The Casimir Pulaski Foundation is involved in the project as a substantive partner; while technological side is supported by technological partner SentiOne, the company which is specializing on Internet monitoring.

About the "Safe Pole" initiative

"Safe Pole" is a socio-technological initiative, which was created due to the growing threat of terrorism, social unrest related with migration crisis or natural disasters, therefore it becomes extremely important to reach people in the danger zone immediately and inform them about existing danger. The research conducted by Selectivv in June this year * shows that over 40% of Poles over the last few years have changed their attitude towards safety during foreign trips. The survey also shows that over 60% of respondents indicate terrorism and armed conflicts as the most important threats during their stay abroad. At the same time, with using special systems or applications which are informing about the threat during travel period, the 85% of respondents have opposite attitude.

Safe Pole initiative - be safe abroad

To solve these problems, Selectivv decided to launch the project "Safe Pole" and show that the technology may not only serve commercial purposes, but can also contribute to social goals, even to improve the security of Poles abroad. In case of danger appearing, e.g. a terrorist attack, a special mode is launched on the Selectivv platform, which displays an alarm message to people in a given location, in a given country, therefore the advertisement is shown on mobile websites or in smartphone applications. After clicking on the advertisement, the user is transferred to the page with the most important information about the event, so he is able to make a direct telephone call to the relevant services or find the route to the nearest diplomatic institution.

In order to identify the dangerous situation as soon as possible and to speed up the time of informing about a danger, Selectivv has cooperated with SentiOne, leading company which is specializing in Internet monitoring and social media channels, to cooperate on the project. As a part of the "Safe Pole" project, SentiOne has provided a tool called SentiOne Listen in order to help monitoring key words on the web such as: terrorist attack, shooting, transport accident, catastrophe, epidemic. The use of such system allows Selectivv to react immediately after receiving a warning alert, which after verification will activate the alarm mode.

The Casimir Pulaski Foundation is the substantive partner of the project "Safe Pole". The foundation is an independent think tank specializing in foreign policy and international security. In the terms of its competences and international reach, the Foundation will promote the initiative among Poland and abroad, moreover the Foundation will involve its independent experts in such areas as national security, defence or cyber security in the project.

"Safe Pole" is first of all social initiative. For that reason, thanks to the cooperation of commercial companies, media and public institutions, it becomes possible to reach the widest possible audience with information about the threat and to deliver plan of actions. It will minimize the level of confusing, decrease chaos level and panic that arise as a result of a dangerous situation. Selectivv invites for participation in the project all companies, public institutions and other entities that want to act together and contribute to improving the security of Poles abroad.

"Safe Pole" was firstly launched in test mode in July 2016 during the terrorist attack in Nice. As part of the Selectivv platform, a special warning emergency mode was activated. Within 2 hours of starting the emergency mode, the message reached 26 Poles in the area of danger.

Due to the upcoming holiday season and increase in tourist traffic, Selectivv in cooperation with the involved partners: The Casimir Pulaski Foundation and SentiOne decided to announce the start of "Safe Pole" project today, to inform about potential danger the widest possible group of citizens and also to reduce the level of anxiety and panic in a period of danger occurring.

* The study about the awareness of Poles regarding dangers during their outgoing trips was conducted on a sample of N = 7065 people by using CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) method and was implemented on smartphones.
