Smartphones say more about us than we tend to say in a survey. In addition, they allow to analyze rich and influential people who rarely agree to be interviewed. We conducted this study at the request of organizers of Warsaw Security Forum, one of the most important security conference in Central Europe.
To conduct the study we used our own technology Geotrapping®, that is marking mobile users staying at the conference. We compared the data on the participants with the data we have collected so far in our DMP database. The statistics were updated in real time and displayed on the screens at the conference.
Of the 921 WSF participants, 531 smartphone users have been identified in their database. Of those, 371 were using Android devices and 160 were Apple devices. During last six months 21% of people has visited Germany, 12% - USA, 9% - Czech Republic, and 8% - Ukraine. 97% of identified smartphone users have visited gas stations during the last month. 62 % of participants use social media.
"New technologies, including big data, play an increasingly important role in ensuring safety. We invited Selectivv to conduct a study of the conference participants to make them aware of how high data can be obtained about smartphone users and how fast it can be done " - says Wojciech Dzięgiel, Executive Director of The Casimir Pulaski Foundation, WSF organizer.
Thanks to the collected data we have prepared a "heat map" illustrating the movements of conference participants in its area. The map is based on queries that each iOS or Android phone emits for WIFI signals. Special, locally installed devices collected data not only about the query itself, but also about the signal strength, which made it possible to identify points with the highest traffic and show where the most interesting things happened during the event.
the Warsaw Security Forum is an international security conference in Central and Eastern Europe. On 8-9 November experts from around the world discussed about the future of NATO, the common defense policy of the EU, as well as the use of new technologies to counter threats.
