Who were the tourists in Krakow in 2021? The preliminary results of the tourist traffic survey in Krakow for the last year were presented during the Tourism Forum.
The current situation in the world does not allow the tourism industry to develop more than before. Both the circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the current state of the Polish-Belarusian border make it impossible to estimate the future of tourism accurately. This sector is significant for the economic development of Kraków. For this purpose, says Anna Korfel-Jasińska, the 4th Deputy Mayor of the City of Krakow for Education, Sport, and Tourism, another PLN 8 million of the budget was transferred.
It is assumed that around 11.3 million tourists will visit Krakow by the end of the year. This increases by as much as 20% compared to the previous year. Tourists in Krakow include over 4 million domestic tourists, over 800,000 foreign tourists, over 6 million domestic one-day visitors, and 85,000 foreign one-day visitors.
PhD K. Borkowski, chairman of the inter-university team of experts at the Małopolska Tourist Organization, claims that an increase in revenues from tourism will be observed, and it is to be one billion zlotys more than in the previous year.
The people who most often visited Krakow were those living in the following voivodeships: Lesser, Silesian, Mazovian, Pomeranian, West Pomeranian and Podkarpackie. It was distinguished that people from the north more often decided to stay longer.
The most significant number of tourists was from Great Britain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy when it comes to foreign tourists.
Most of the visitors declared that the reason for visiting Krakow was visiting monuments (almost 30% of respondents). Then, entertainment, leisure, and religious purposes were indicated. Only less than 2% of respondents indicated business goals as the reason for their visit.
Domestic tourists' primary means of transport were the car (almost 40% of the respondents) and the plane (over 26%). Then, the visitors chose successively: railway, bus, tourist coach. On the other hand, foreign tourists most often chose the plane (over 40%), then a car, a train, a line bus, and a tourist coach.
Every fourth domestic tourist used accommodation with a family with friends, not much less because over 23% chose hotels. Similarly to Poles, foreign tourists most often chose accommodation with a family (29%) and, likewise, over 22% stayed in hotels. Domestic and foreign tourists then decided apartments (over 14% in both cases), and less than 10% stayed in hostels.
Tourists in Krakow are primarily women (over 56%). Most tourists are aged 30-44, then 20-29.
