In January 2020, according to data from mobile devices, there were over 1.27 million people in Poland This is a similar number to that of the research in March 2019.
In the first quarter this value dropped and in April we noted about 1.1 million Ukrainians in Poland. From April to October 2020, the number of Ukrainian users in Poland was characterized by a constant upward trend (1 098 682 >> 1 405 794). In the last quarter, we saw a drop again to 1,315,456 users in December 2020.
The monthly balance of the number of people from Ukraine in Poland in the first months of the study was negative. Especially in March and April 2020, i.e. during the period of economic freezing.
In August and September, we recorded a positive balance (almost 100,000). It was caused both by an increase in the number of arrivals and a decrease in the number of departures from Poland to Ukraine.
In October, a decrease in the balance was observed, which indicated the stabilization of traffic, and in November and December, the balance was weak again.
The record value of users' arrivals from Ukraine to Poland was observed in February 2020, however, the epidemic situation drastically influenced this value. In March, the number of arrivals was over three times lower.
In April, the number of arrivals increased slightly, and in the May-September period, we recorded a steady increase, almost to the pre-pandemic value. From October, the number of arrivals from Ukraine to Poland began to decline. In December 2020, it reached a record low value of 28 728 arrivals per year.
For the first part of the year (January-May), we observed a decrease in the number of departures from Poland to Ukraine. In June, this value increased relatively. In July, it decreased twice, and in August by over 1/3 (month to month). Since September, more and more users have decided to return. In the last quarter, the tendency was increasing, but the number of departures in December accounted for less than 60% of that in January.
In the case of trips abroad (users from Ukraine leaving Poland to other countries), we see a clear decrease throughout the year compared to the period before the pandemic. Even in January and February, traffic was around 20,000 departures. During the rest of the year, it dropped on average to the level of around 5,000 departures (minimum 1,211 in December, maximum 10,258 in October).
At the beginning of the year, the number of people from Ukraine residing in Poland began to decline. After increasing since May, it reached a record high in October (1,405,794). Since November, we have seen a decrease again, but at the end of the year, the number of people from Ukraine in Poland was not the lowest (1,315,456 vs 1,098,682 in April).
The above-mentioned change was influenced by the almost two-fold decrease in the number of people coming from AU to Poland in October, with a simultaneous increase in the number of people leaving. The total balance of arrivals and departures fell to less than 14 thousand. people in October, and in November and December it was negative again.
The number of people of Ukrainian nationality leaving Poland for other countries during the pandemic (from March 2020) decreased more than three times. In October it was the highest (around 10,000), but in November and December, it was record low (2,586 and 1,211 departures, respectively).
